LA PEQUEÑA DESPENSA

As the pandemic continues to challenge our communities we hope to raise enough money each month to help our neighbors overcome this crisis. Please join us in helping LA PEQUEÑA DESPENSA meet their monthly goals by contributing any amount via our GoFundMe drive.

We are just people helping people. We are from Jackson Heights, Corona, East Elmhurst, Woodside, and Astoria. We are from Brooklyn. We are from the Bronx. We are neighbors, families, friends.

We are La Pequeña Despensa (The Little Pantry). We are guidance counsellors, teachers, community activists, and civil servants. We are just people who came together understanding that our community is facing extreme anxiety as the pandemic endures. We decided that together, we can help!

We began with a few families, a few phone calls, and 50 bags packed with flour, rice, sugar, beans...the necessities ensuring mealtime would be a source of comfort for the body and a balm to the soul. With a bit more outreach and word of mouth, these past few months we were able to raise $6000.00 allowing us to distribute 300 bags of groceries to 100 families.

We are hands on. No formula, no script, just creative ingenuity. We shop, pack, and deliver the essentials door to door, person to person. Maintaining social distance and respecting the integrity and privacy of each family, our small network of 6 volunteers meets each week to coordinate, share resources and solutions, expanding our outreach within the Latinx community and beyond.

This week there is the promise of basics to help nourish our community one family at a time. La Pequeña Despensa: small things mean so much, small things make a difference.
